Ceramics Makes Its Comeback
By Erika Perez Lira
his 2024-2025 school year at Lake Havasu High School (LHHS) is a new elective: ceramics. Mr. Kevin Bangsund, an art and graphic design teacher at LHHS, located in room C124, previously taught ceramics and championed its return to the high school. It’s a hands-on class, all about pottery and using your creative skills to experience the whole step-by-step process of clay. It is a semester-long class but can turn into a second section if students choose to continue and go higher up. Bangsund started teaching the class back in 2012. However, the art program gradually turned into a (Career and Technical Education) CTE class that mixed art with technology over time. Fall 2024 marks the first semester ceramics returned as a traditional option.

To start it up, the school implemented the standards and criteria from before. Mr. Bangsund was the perfect candidate for this course because he has the experience and background. He used to own a pottery company and he has his own ceramics class at MCC. He has been working at MCC for 22 years. If you’re interested in classic art make sure to check out his class.
